Hysterectomy is a surgical procedure in which the uterus is removed. There are several types of hysterectomy. Vaginal hysterectomy involves a shorter time in the hospital, lower cost and faster recovery than an abdominal hysterectomy, which requires an incision in your lower abdomen.
Specialized surgical tools are injected into the vagina for separating the womb and cervix from ligaments, holding it in a place. After the removal of the womb, the cut is stitched. Vaginal Hysterectomy is performed through- spinal anesthetic (from the waist down you will be numbed) or through general anesthetic (at the time of operation, you will be unconscious).
There are other ways considered for the removal of the uterus namely laparoscopic hysterectomy, robotic hysterectomy, and abdominal hysterectomy.
Several reasons are there why the uterus is removed. Some disorders that are treated are- tumors in the uterus, chronic pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, and the presence of cancerous cells.
